What we do with every litter of puppies...

Did you know the average gestation period for a dog is just 63- 65 days?  Yep, it's not very long considering Standard Poodles have an average of 9 to12 puppies in each litter.

It doesn't take long for the puppies to be born.  Two months goes by fast.

Puppy eyes will start to open at 8-10 days old.

Puppy ears, they start hearing at around 13-17 days old.

Then the fun begins.  They start walking more and checking out the world.

Making our Puppies "Super Dogs":  Early Neurological Stimulation for Dogs, (ENS) Along with supplemental bottle feeding is the answer!! Starting when the puppies are 3 days old, we start neurological Stimulation.  It has been used for decades and benefits puppy development in five ways.  1) Improves Heart Rate.  2)  Stonger Heart Beats.  3)  Stonger Adrenal Glands.  4)  More Tolerance to Stress.  5)  Greater Resistance to Disease.

This litter of puppies (actually a pile-of-puppies) are only 2 days old and boy let me tell you  --   we had a record breaking litter of - 16 PUPPIES!!  Yes, you read this right.  This mother of ours, had 16 puppies, all healthy, happy and beautiful!  Needless to say, we spent day & night with all these red-headed kids, feeding them, right along with 'mom'.  They are only one day old in this photo.

Just born - mama is wore out, but very proud of her babies.

We supplement feed all of our puppies from day-1. They LOVE their bottles!  We 'supplement feed' all of our puppies.  (we use a recipe of puppy milk replacement milk and goat milk)  Supplement feeding makes life easier on the mom and the babies.  It is also the 'key' in having the puppies bond to 'us humans'.  Nobody goes hungry at our house.  :) Please, don't get me wrong, the mother still does most of the work!  we just help out.

We hold an electric grooming clipper on the pups when very young until they leave our home  - this will make grooming more enjoyable and less stressful when they are older.  We also have a TV on or a radio for different sounds / noises.

"Sniffing" out the bottle...  Even before their eyes open, they can 'smell us'.  When we go into their pen the puppies become alert (all off them!) and do the "alligator crawl" towards us!  It's the cutest thing ever!!

12 days old and their eyes are opening.  It won't be long and they will be up and running.

3-4 weeks old.  They can see & hear now.  These guys and gals are moving around a lot.  Learning how to use their legs and explore the world.

There's nothing better than Yummy soft kibble!  The kids are now playing in the crate, learning how to "sing" and sleeping to "re-charge" their batteries!  At this age, nothing gets past them.  We try to 'sneak' in their pen, but someone always catches us  :)

They are introduced to doggie-door mastered at 4-1/2 weeks old and have it mastered within 15 minutes.  We have several 'family days' where the puppies play with our grandchildren and parents, of course!  Everyday is a new adventure  :)

Oh, what it's like to sit with 9 to12 red-headed poodle puppies... all at one time... crawling all over you.

At 7 weeks old, the puppy faces are groomed.  We put towels and toys in with the puppies (so they have the siblings scent/good smells)  These towels and toys go home with every puppy to help with their transition to their furever home.  They are all eating dry kibble and drinking water.
