"Hi There!" How do I name my new family member? There are so many names out there, but I would suggest making a list of possoble names, putting it on the refridgerator... Sometimes it's best to select the best name after you bring your puppy home.
*************************************************************
A good dog name can actually enhance his/her responsiveness and improve communication between you.
Dogs have an easier time hearing hard consonants and long vowels, so a name like “Lucky” or “Benny” will be easier for him to distinguish from other sounds. Most dog training experts recommend a one or two-syllable name that you can say quickly. It’s also commonly recommended that you avoid names that sound like commands, for example, “Kit,” which sounds like “sit,” or “Bo,” "Boe" which sounds like “no.”
When a dog hears his/her name, it’s a signal that whatever is coming next is meant for her. So use her name frequently in a positive context so she doesn’t associate it with punishment or something negative.
Don’t name a dog something that sounds a lot like the name of another family member. If your daughter is “Annie” and the dog is “Franny,” the dog (or your daughter) may be confused and not know when to respond and may be late for dinner. :)
Pick a name you like to say (and that you won’t be embarrassed to yell across the dog park, like 'Buck', or 'Huck'). You’ll be saying your puppy’s name a lot over time, as a quick attention grabber or just as part of their overall training and socialization.
You may want to check out both, the Boy Names and the Girl Names, as some can fit either sex.
