Did you know: Here at Colorado Red Royal Standard Poodles matched the all-time record of 16 puppies in one litter!?? Yes we did. On November 10th, 2019 one of our gilrs had a HUGE, healthy litter of 16 puppies. 5 Boys and 11 Girls. All puppies survied and are happy & healthy red-headed kids :)
Here is a link to the other litter of 16 standard poodle puppies, located in Minnesota. They had cream colored puppies.

Here they are! Less than one day old. It's hard to count them, but there are 16 puppies in the photos below.
Did you know: Poodles grow hair inside thier ear canals? This hair must be pulled out to prevent ear infections. 'Pulling' the hair from your pets ears is a must. Inside the ear canal, is the perfect place for bacteria to grow - dark, mosit and warm. This process is fairly simple and "you", as the pet's owner, should start pulling the hair from your puppy's ears at 8 weeks old. Use 'ear powder'....
Did you know: you should trim your puppy's / dogs nails frequently or the 'quick' will grow out, thus resulting in 'long' nails. When your puppy is young, use a (human) nail clipper. Take when trimming your puppy / dog nails, not to cut the quick and cause bleeding. If you do, use 'quick-stop' or simply dip the toe nail in some powdered sugar to stop the bleeding. And yes, this does hurt your dog! and may result in your dog having anxiety when it comes to future nail trimming.
Did you know: you should groom your dog every 6 weeks or so. (groom means give your poodle a hair cut) Letting your poodles coat grow long, where it starts to matt, is hard on your dog, as the matts will 'pull' on your dog's skin and make it very uncomfortable for your pet. Your groomer will also appreciate you taking your dog in, prior to matting, as it makes the process much easier. A matted dog, will result in the groomer having to cut the coat much shorter. And in some cases it will cost you more. If you would like to groom your own dog, I would suggest taking a course to learn the tips & tricks of grooming a poodle. The class should also recommend different types of grooming tools. Check your local Adult Education classes or your city recreation center. Maybe even an on-line course.
Did you know: de-worming your puppy / dog on a regular schedule is very important. Your puppy, at 8 weeks old, will have been de-wormed twice before leaving our home to yours. Your vet will guide you on what type of de-wormer and how often it should be given.
Did you know: keeping your puppy / dogs vaccines up-to-date is vital to your pets overall health and the rabies vaccine is more than likely required in the county you live in... young puppies should not be taken to dog parks, wayside areas along the highway, or any other place where many dogs frequent - until they have their last set of vaccines...
Did you know: tartar on your pet's teeth...
Did you know: proper identification for your pet is a must, in the event your pet gets lost or if someone steals your pet. Just imagine... how sad it would be if you lose your pet. Microchipping is the best way to identify your dog, but a dog tag on it's collar is also recommended. Better yet, having your information sewed on the collar /or have your dog collar's buckle engraved with emergency information. (sometimes tags come off) A tag with your phone number will more than likely get your pet back to you faster than just a microchip.
Did you know: registering your puppy with the AKC (American Kennel Club) helps support the AKC. The AKC relies on families to register thier dogs, even if you don't plan on breeding.

Did you know: you should spay or neutar your pet. It will lengthen their life span, and in some cases prevent different types of cancer. A male dog that has not been spayed is more likely to venture from home, searching for a female in heat. A male dog that has not been neutared will have very 'strong' stinky urine and will tend to 'mark' his territory. A female dog that has not been spayed will 'spot' and who would want that in thier house. If you live in Colorado, and looking for a reasonable veternarian clinic, check out "Planned Pethood Plus" OR Animal Clinic North (off Washinton St in Thornton, CO) They have very reasonable prices.
Did you know: Another thing you should do (I really reccomend it) while your poodle is already 'under' during the neutar/spay surgery - you should have your vet 'tack their stomach'. I can't tell you how many times I have heard about a familiy's pet that got 'torsion', 'twisted stomach' aka 'bloat'. If caught early, surgery can save your dog, but if not caught in time, your dog will die. Things you'll notice if your dog has Bloat: sometimes they whine (cry), seem very uncomfortable, look 'bloated' in their stomach area, they will walk stiff legged... If you notice this, take your dog to the vet/ emergency hospital immediately. The faster you get your dog to the vet the better chance you will have saving him. Bloat can happen in any larged chested dog like Poodles, Doberman Pinchers, Grey Hounds, Great Danes, etc.
Did you know: when removing a tick, take care and not squeeze the Tick, if you do - it will infuse your pet with more tick contents, increasing the risk of devveloping one or more diseases.
